Happy New Year

Hey all.
My writer and friend Jeff Stevenson got me a DVD for Christmas, "Concept Design with Feng Zhu- vol. 1: vehicle design" through the Gnomon Workshop. I watched it this morning as a warm up exercise, and these are what i came up with. i've been notoriously bad with tech and vehicle design, so that's the purpose of the DVD. i want to be better at it, and from these first two drawings(while not great) show an improvement already. so keep you eyes peeled to this page, as i'm sure there will be many more designs showing up in the future. after all, practice makes perfect.

Happy new year to everyone.

Cover-redo?

this was done as a teaser/cover for the upcoming webcomic. it's a swipe of another unused cover by the one and only Ryan Ottley ("Wya"). Ryan had worked with Jeff in the past on a story called Dungeon Bears...read it, it's fantastic. anyway, this is supposed to be a cover for the new series, if a webcomic could have a cover :)

Unused page

Some of you may have heard that i landed a five page backup story in the March released Bomb Queen (series 3) #1.
Before the final script was written, i drew this page up as kind of my idea on how to start the story. This is the queen getting ready to go out for the day in the "retro" costume i came up with. Later it was decided that we should use the original costume for storytelling purposes...but i can't talk too much about it, you'll have to ask the comicbook store to order the issue so you can find out. Anyway, i hope you enjoy the never used page because it will never see the light of day other than here.

Merry Christmas.

A Dam’d Image Comic

BQ3_01_jimmie.jpgWell, it looks like Seth will be getting some of his sequential work into a book from Image Comics. It’s just a 5-page backup story, but it’s a kick-ass backup story. ^_^

It’ll be in the pages of the Bomb Queen III book (from Jimmie Robinson via Jim Valentino’s Shadowline imprint at Image) and hits comic shops in March. If you’re as big a fan of Seth’s artwork as I am, pre-order a copy at your local comic shop to make sure you get a copy before it sells out (you can find a local shop via the Comic Shop Locator link on the right sidebar of our homepage here).

For more details on Shadowline, check out the Shadowline Comics MySpace page

That Successful $1.5 Million Movie…

Imagine an age where the average house cost about $4000, the average car sold for under $800, and you could get a gallon of gas for around 10 cents.  In 1937, $1.5 million probably wasn’t easy to part with for a movie… especially an animated movie.  But on this day back in 1937, that movie hit the theaters and had itself a successful run over the years.

The movie?  Snow White and the Seven Dwarves.

And it’s original domestic gross take?  $66 million … a return of over 40 times the original investment.
Plus, it’s been re-released to theaters three times for an additional $118 million in domestic gross (for a total return of over 120 times the original cost).

I wonder what Hollywood would be like if someone was ever able to match that kind of success with one of these $100 million movies.
